Infinitive or ing?

ACTIVITY 67: Complete the following sentences by choosing a verbal alternative from the menus. Then check the correct answers. But before doing this activity please remember:

REMEMBER TO DO and REMEMBER DOING

You remember to do something before you do it.
You remember doing something after you do it.

TRY TO DO and TRY DOING

Try to do = attempt to do or make an effort to do.
Try doing = doing something as an experiment to test.

A: You lent me some money a few months ago.
B: Did I? That's strange. I don't remember
you any money.

2.

A: I can't find anywhere to live!
B: Why don't you try
an ad in the newspaper?

3.

We tried the fire out, but we were unsuccessful. We had to call the fire department.

4.

When you see Liz, remember her my regards, will you?

5.

Someone must have taken my bag. I clearly remember it by the window.

6.

I've got a terrible headache. I tried an aspirin, but it didn't help.

Susan needed some money. She tried Marcelo, but he couldn't help her.

He tried the shelf, but he wasn't tall enough.

"Did you remember Ann?" "Oh no, I completely forgot."

I was really tired. I tried my eyes open, but I couldn't.
