MY
FAVOURITE PLACE TO EAT
0
Around the
city of Vienna are a few hundred
of Heurigen or wine
00
taverns.
Many are on the edge of the Vienna
Woods at Grinzing.
1
Avoid these
unless you do not mind in spending
the evening with
2
coachloads
of another tourists and
sad-looking musicians with
3
accordians.
Viennese people would rather to go
to taverns which are
4
further away
but at which you can rely on
getting refreshing wine
5
and one
simple but delicious food. My
favourite is Sirbu, set in
6
the
vineyard-covered hills of Vienna's
nineteenth district. It is
7
best to go
on a summer evening in slightly
fine weather when you
8
can sit
outside at her plain wooden
tables underneath trailing
9
vines. A
busy waitress in traditional
costume will bring young
10
white wine
served in jugs or by the glass,
which tastes of best
11
mixed with
sparkling mineral water. A range
of simple dishes can be
12
picked
yourself up at the counter
inside: slices of roast pork,
13
roast
chicken, cold vegetable salads,
fresh radishes, tomatoes, and a
14
dark bread
which can be eaten with cheese
spiced with a garlic,
15
onion and
paprika. I would like to finish
off my meal with a piece of
