ACTIVITY 414: Read the text below and look
carefully at each line. Some of the lines are correct, and some have a
word which should not be there. If a line is correct, type OK
in the blank space on the left of
the number. If a line has a word which should not be there, write that
word in brackets. There are two examples at the beginning (0 and 00).
MY LIFE AS AN OPERA SINGER
0
I'm an opera singer who can sings mezzo-soprano roles. That
00
means I play a variety of young princes, kitchen boys, peasant
1
girls and queens. Some composers, such as like Puccini, don't
2
give to mezzo-sopranos any parts, but I have had a lot of work
3
in every operas by Verdi and by contemporary composers. As I
4
cannot afford to turn down good roles, sometimes I have a
5
complicated timetable. Last year I have had to commute daily
6
between Uruguay, where I was performing in the evening, and from
7
Argentina, where I was rehearsing during the day. It's surprising
8
what you can get used to do!! Rehearsing takes up most of an
9
opera singer's time. By the end of this year I will have given
10
63 performances, and had rehearsed almost every day of the
11
year. I always look forward to performing in the front of an
12
audience. Recently my part in Greek meant I being on stage and
13
singing for most of the 90 minutes of the performance. On the
14
other hand, in some operas I have a few lines to sing. Often
15
when I get at home after a performance I can't sleep because the
music is
still in my head.
