The object in the photo – and being described in
the audio by tour guide Josefina Vargas Cardona – is the Muisca
Raft of the Golden Man (La Balsa Muisca de El Dorado, in
Spanish) and can be found at the Gold Museum at Bogotá, Colombia.
It represents a religious ceremony performed on Lake Guatavita (in
present-day Colombia) by a new king of the Muisca people. Together
with four of his chiefs, he threw gold and emeralds into the middle
of the lake as an offering to the god who was believed to live there.
For the ceremony his body was covered in gold dust.
