ACTIVITY 226: Read the text
below and look carefully at each line. Some of the lines are
correct, and some have a word which should not be there. If a
line is correct, type OK in the blank space on the left of
the number. If a line has a word which should not be there,
write that word in brackets. There are two examples at
the beginning (0 and 00).
FLOOD THREAT AT MILLINGEN
0
We do live in a small town
called Millingen, on the river
00
Rhine. The flood waters are
rising quickly at the moment: the
1
water is right up to the top of the dykes which ought protect
2
the town, and our house is in great danger of being flooded.
3
Everything now must depends on the dykes and whether they
4
hold. I was at school on Monday when we were told we have had
5
to evacuate our homes. At about one o'clock we went home to
6
pack everything we could, and carry what we could not to take
7
with us upstairs into the attic of our house. We were meant to
8
leave by on midnight, but there was so much to do that we
9
stayed until at 5 am. The gas had been disconnected so it was
10
very cold. During the water kept on rising and in the end we
11
were forced to go. As we had left we saw soldiers checking the
12
houses to see if anybody was still in them yet. Some old
13
people refused to leave. I do not never know if they are still
14
there or not. Now we are waiting to see what it happens to the
15
dykes. Will I go back and find what our house has been ruined?
