ACTIVITY 51: Your ability to
communicate information, ideas and opinions in spoken English is
tested in Paper 5. Watch the videoclip below and type your personal

as if you were talking to your FCE examiner. You must
describe what is happening in the video (what the people are doing,
where they are, etc). At the bottom, a bilingual glossary will help

TV commercial: a commercially
sponsored ad on television (aviso o comercial de televisión);
Caltex: a famous Australian oil company
(afamada compañía australiana de petróleo); features:
displays (presenta a un actor en un film);
pulling: moving something towards you
(arrastrando, tirando de); shopping cart: a handcart that
holds groceries while shopping (carrito de compras, "changuito");
squeaky wheels: rusty rotating discs (ruedas chirriantes a causa
de óxido o poca lubricación); rusty: covered with rust (oxidado,
sin lubricación); checkout counter: a counter in a
supermarket where you pay for your purchases (caja, mostrador de
pagos en un supermercado); shop assistant: salesclerk, an
employee in a shop
(empleado); screeching sound: a high-pitched noise
resembling a human cry (sonido chirriante o chillón);
squeaky: irritating (irritante, a causa de poca lubricación);
grates on your nerves: irritates you (te eriza los cabellos,

aisle: a long narrow passage (pasillo de avión, supermercado,

(viejos, desgastados huesos); can't believe his ears:
competitor team, contestant, the contestant you hope to defeat (no
puede creer lo que está escuchando);
