ANSWERS ACTIVITY 51
The comments
below are just an example. Other alternatives are also possible. |
This is a TV commercial for Caltex, a famous Australian oil company. |
It features an old lady in a red dress and black shoes coming into a
supermarket. She is
pulling her personal shopping cart which two
wheels seem to be rusty. |
At the checkout counter, a shop assistant who is helping another
customer, listens to the
screeching sound.
(Squeaky wheels are really irritating because they
make such a high-pitched
noise that it grates on your nerves like fingernails on a chalkboard.)
|
Then, in one of the aisles of the dairy section, the lady takes a carton
of milk from one of the supermarket fridges. The considerate assistant
takes an oil can from one of the shelves and rushes to
put off the squeaking sound from the cart wheels
by lubricating them. |
On her angelical face the old lady shows a wide smile of appreciation
for his help. But, then she seems to remember some products she has not
bought yet and goes towards another stand. Then, to your surprise, you
can listen that the squeaky noise is in fact coming from her old bones!!
The shop assistant can't believe his ears. |
This story remembers me of that old saying, "The
squeaky wheel gets the grease". That is, if
you cry loud enough, you'll eventually get your way. |
