The Pyramids were built more than four thousand years ago by the Egyptians. The most famous ones
are on the west bank of
the River Nile, outside of
Cairo. They served as 
burial places for the
Egyptian kings. 
After a king's death, 
his body was turned into what is called a mummy. This preserved it. 
The king's mummy was placed inside the pyramid together with treasures
and the king's belongings.    

Las Pirámides fueron construidas hace más de cuatro mil años por los egipcios. Las más famosas
se encuentran en la orilla occidental del río Nilo, en las afueras de El Cairo. Servían de lugares de sepultura para los reyes egipcios. Después de la muerte de un rey, su cuerpo era convertido en lo que denominamos momia. Esto lo preservaba.
La momia del rey era colocada en el interior de 
la pirámide junto con tesoros
y las pertenencias reales.

Machu Picchu is an 
ancient Inca city in Peru. Construction of the city started in 1450. The ruins are about 2,400 metres above sea level. That's about 7, 800 feet. The city covers about 13 square kilometers. That's about 5 square miles. For centuries the city was buried in the jungle and wasn't discovered again until 1911. Today Machu Picchu is one of the most famous tourist attractions in all of South America.

antigua ciudad inca del Perú. La construcción de la ciudad comenzó en 1450. Las ruinas están aproximadamente a 2.400 metros sobre el nivel
del mar. Es decir, unos 7.800 pies. La ciudad abarca aprox. 13 km2. Es decir, unas 5 millas cuadradas. Durante siglos la ciudad estuvo enterrada en la jungla y no fue redescubierta hasta 1911.
Hoy Machu Picchu es una de las atracciones turísticas más famosas en toda América del Sur.

The Great Wall of China 
is the longest man-made structure ever built. 
It was built to protect one
of the Chinese kingdoms. 
Much of what exists of the wall today was built during the Ming dynasty, in the late 1400s. Other parts of the wall are much older and 
go back to around 200 B.C. The wall is about 35 feet high, or 11 meters, and a stone roadway runs along the top of it. The main part
of the wall stretches for about 200 miles, that is about 3,400 kilometers.      

La Gran Muralla China es la estructura más larga que haya edificado el hombre. Fue construida para proteger uno
de los reinos chinos. Gran
parte de lo que hoy queda de
la muralla fue construida durante la dinastía Ming a fin
de 1400. Otros sectores de
la muralla son mucho más
antiguos y datan aprox. del 
año 200 A.C. La muralla tiene aprox. 35 pies de altura u 11 metros y una calzada de piedra conduce a su cima. El sector principal de la muralla se extiende por aprox. 200 millas, es decir, unos 3.400 km.
