PASSIVE VOICE: Active to Passive.

 

EXERCISE A

Put these sentences into the passive voice.
Do not mention the agent in these sentences.

 

1.  They will exhibit paintings from Colombia until June 30.

2.  Someone unlocked the front door and turned on the light last night at home.

3.  People must not leave bikes in the entrance hall of the building.

 

4.  Someone has already told Mabel to sit for the FCE exam at 8 am.

 

5.  Someone makes these artificial flowers of wool and plastic.

 
 

EXERCISE B

Put these sentences into the passive voice.
(a) Mention the agent where necessary.
Example: Ann gave me a tie = I was given a tie by Ann.
(b) Where you see an indirect object, make it the subject of the passive verb ("Idiomatic Passive").
Example: They gave me a present = I was given a present.

 

1.  The closure of the factory will make many men redundant.

2.  A heavy rainstorm flooded their country house in Ecuador.

 

3.  Dr. Brown the lawyer gave Susan the details of her aunt's will.

4.  Most people in Argentina opposed the new candidate.

5.  Art students are doing a lot of the work in our capital city.
