CAN, COULD, BE ABLE TO.

 

EXERCISE A

Complete the blanks using CAN for present, COULD for past and WILL BE ABLE TO for future. Pay attention to the "negative verb" warnings in red.

 

1.  When I have passed my driving test I buy a small
     car from our local dealer.

         address!

EXERCISE B

Complete the blanks using COULD or WAS ABLE TO. In some sentences only WAS/WERE ABLE is possible.

 

1.  The tour bus went into the river and the driver to get out
     but all the tourists were drowned.

2.  We knew Mexico, DF so we advise them where to go
     and what to visit there.

3.  The inspector was suspicious at first but my wife
     to convince him that we were innocent.

4.  At nine years old my daughter Elisa read English
     quite well.

5.  My cousins Luciano and Daniel were really strong men. Both of them
    
to swim all day long.

6.  Yesterday Angie and Mariana borrow umbrellas,
