AUXILIARY VERBS: Short Answers.

 

EXERCISE A

Answer these questions twice.
Use YES and NO + pronoun + an auxiliary.
Example: Did you go? = Yes, I did / No, I didn't.

 

1.  Are you afraid of dogs?

2.  Is the elevator working now?

3.   Does he drink vodka?

 

4.  Did your uncle say anything?

 

5.  Were they surprised?

 
 

AUXILIARY VERBS: Affirmative Additions to Remarks.

 

EXERCISE B

Add an affirmative remark to these comments using AND SO + an auxiliary + the noun or pronoun in brackets.
Example: He lives here (Ann) = He lives here and so does Ann.

 

1.  Mark can speak Italian. (his father).

2.  Bus #400 goes to Barcelona downtown. (buses #150 and #180).

3.  You must come to the concert. (your son Mike).

 

4.  I bought a ticket to Venice. (my sister Liza).

 

5.  He had to wait at the station. (you)

 

AUXILIARY VERBS: Negative Additions to Remarks.

 

EXERCISE C

Add a negative remark to these comments using AND NEITHER + an auxiliary + the noun or pronoun in brackets.
Example: He isn't back (Ann) = He isn't back and neither is Ann.

 

1.  You don't know the way to the new mall. (your wife).

2.  My teacher's car won't start today. (mine).

3.  Virginia hadn't any change. (the bus driver)

 

4.  I don't believe it. (Elena).

 

5.  They didn't use the visa. (we)
