Confusing words

 

 

This section of our course will review 100 words groups that are troublesome to many CPE students. Words have been grouped according to the way they are most often confused or misused. Some of these words are homonyms (words that sound alike but are spelled differently) and some are just commonly confused. Each set of confusables (eg: their, there, they're) are displayed together.

Words Groups - Part 9/10

81.

sensual = of the body
sensuous = appealing to the senses

82.

so = therefore
sew = to stitch
sow = to scatter seed

83.

some = a part of
sum = a total

84.

sore = painful
soar = to fly; rise, increase

85.

stairs = set of steps
stares = looks at

86.

staple = basic commodity; a pin holding papers together
stable = firm; a shed for horses

87.

stationary = immobile
stationery = writing materials

88.

supplement = to add to something
supplant = to forcefully replace

89.

tail = the end
tale = a story

90.

team = a group
teem = to abound
