CAE ADVICE 8/8
Now you will
listen to some "real" students taking the four
parts of the Speaking Exam. We did not publish the
audio transcriptions as – at this stage of the CAE
course – you should be able to understand what the
students are being asked and what they are
commenting.
SPEAKING
- PART 1
You do
the Speaking Paper in pairs. In Part l, the
examiner asks each of you questions about
your lives, your interests, your activities,
your experiences, your background, etc.
You discuss these things with the examiner
and the other candidate. This part of
the exam lasts three minutes. Now listen to
students Nagwa and Carlos taking Part 1 of
the CAE examination.
SPEAKING
- PART 2a
Listen
carefully to the examiner's instructions and
look at the two photos below. The examiner
usually starts by introducing ideas or
questions very similar to these: "Here
are your pictures. They show people doing
dangerous activities. I'd like you to
compare two of the pictures and say what
different skills each activity involves, and
how these activities make people feel".
SPEAKING
- PART 2b
Listen
carefully to the examiner's instructions and
look at the three photos below. You will
have to choose two photos to work in pairs.
The examiner usually starts by introducing
ideas or questions very similar to these: "Look
at these three pictures: 1) Which pictures
would you choose to talk about?; 2) What
could you say about each of them? They show
people using different machines or devices.
I'd like you to compare two of the pictures
and say how the machines or devices help the
people to do their work faster".
On the next page you will read about Speaking
Exam - Parts 3a, 3b and 4.
