CAE ADVICE
5/8 |
|
PAPER 4: LISTENING |
Your
ability to understand spoken English is tested in Paper 4 which
contains several parts. Each part has a different
listening task. |
BE PREPARED FOR ... |
► |
A VARIETY OF VOICES
in terms of
accents, speed of delivery and speaking styles. |
► |
A VARIETY OF SUBJECT MATTER:
conversations, announcements, telephone messages and
materials from the radio (reports, interviews,
advertisements, etc). |
► |
A VARIETY OF TASK,
particularly in Parts 2 and 4 candidates should always read
the instructions carefully to understand what to do. |
|
TIMING |
The time given to candidates to look through
the questions before the first listening is really important
because: |
► |
You can see the task you have to perform
and how you have to give your answers. |
► |
You can get an idea about
what you are
going to hear. You can start thinking about the subject,
the person or people talking and the situation. |
► |
You can see what you
have to listen for. This will help you concentrate on
what is important and ignore what is not. |
|
|
FINAL ADVICE |
Do
not panic if you don't understand everything the first time.
During the CAE exam, everything is heard twice,
and in some cases you may not have to understand every single
word to do the task. |
