FIRST MAN ON THE MOON

At 02:56 hours GMT on 21 July 1969 the first man stepped on to the moon, in a place called the 'Sea of Tranquillity'. Neil Armstrong and his associate 'Buzz' Aldrin spent nearly three hours on the moon, performing scientific experiments such as collecting samples of lunar soil and rock. They left the moon and returned to the orbiting Apollo 11 spaceship later that day, returning to earth on 24 July.
