Adjectives

 

 

 

Some pairs of adjectives are formed from verbs:

Ron's war experience was depressing: it made him depressed.

The boy's friends were encouraging: he was encouraged.

1) ADJECTIVES ENDING IN -ING

These adjectives usually describe the effect something creates:

The television programme was ...

annoying  /  boring  /  disappointing  /  frightening  /  interesting

2) ADJECTIVES ENDING IN -ED

These adjectives usually describe how you feel about that effect:

I was completely ...

annoyed  /  bored  /  disappointed  /  frightened  /  interested
